Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Galaxy Watch 5: Design and Build
When it comes to design, both devices provide durability and a premium look, along with their metal build.
The GTR 3 Pro boasts an aluminium alloy body, providing added durability and protection from wear and tear. It has a dimension of 46 x 46 x 10.7 mm and weighs only 32g (without strap). Whereas, the Galaxy Watch 5 boasts a mix of stainless steel and aluminium for its casing, adding a premium feel along with ruggedness and durability. It has a dimension of 44.4 x 43.3 x 9.8 mm and weighs only 28.7g (without strap).
In terms of buttons, the GTR 3 Pro has a digital crown and button on the side that blends almost perfectly with the display. The device comes with quick release bands that can be easily swapped to your design mood or fit. Plus, you can choose between the leather and fluoroelastomer bands according to your preference. It has the same pin buckle you see on the market, which makes it easy to wear and keep it in place.
The Galaxy Watch 5, on the other hand, has two buttons and a microphone on the right side, along with a touch-sensitive bezel, which you will use to navigate its UI and menus. It also comes with a 20-mm quick-release band that is swappable and easy to change according to the user’s mood and preference. With this watch, you can choose between Leather, Silicone, Nylon, and Canvas bands, plus it also has a fluoroelastomer band for added comfort to wear for an extended period of time. It also has the same pin buckle band as the GTR 3 Pro.
If we talk about water resistance, both devices have a rating of 5 ATM for water resistance. The watch can be used for swimming, and it can withstand being submerged underwater for up to 50 metres. However, they are not compatible with deep diving and high-pressure water jets.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Galaxy Watch 5: Display
In terms of display, both devices offer a colourful and vibrant display, ensuring readability even in direct sunlight.
The GTR 3 Pro boasts a 1.45-inch AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and a pixel density of 331 PPI. The display is protected with tempered glass and an anti-fingerprint coating, providing durability and protection from scratches and fingerprints. The display is bright and crisp, and you can use the watch even in direct sunlight.
The Galaxy Watch 5, on the other hand, boasts a 1.19-inch (40mm) and 1.39-inch (44mm) super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 396 x 396 pixels and a pixel density of 330 PPI. The display is protected with sapphire crystal glass, which is 60% stronger than the tempered glass. It has an excellent display with a brightness of up to 1000 nits, which makes it easy to see outdoors. It also offers a vibrant, punchy colour that merges with the bezel to further enhance the user experience.
Overall, both devices offer an awesome screen size and have a bright, colourful display. Plus, they also have screen protection for added scratch resistance and durability. Additionally, they also have always-on display functionality, thanks to their AMOLED display.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Galaxy Watch 5: Health and Fitness Features
Both devices offer hearty options for health and fitness tracking. The GTR 3 Pro features a BioTracker 3.0 sensor that has 2 LEDs and 6 photodiodes; however, it’s not the latest one that you get on the latest models like the Amazfit GTR 4. It offers heart rate tracking, SpO2, breathing rate, breathing quality in sleep, advanced sleep tracking (light, deep, and REM), daytime naps, sleep score, and PAI score, which tracks various metrics for a period of 7 days and crunches them down to a single number. A higher number means you are fit, and the lower the number, the more unfit you are, so by using these numbers, you can start living a healthy life or working out.
In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 5 features a 3-in-1 BioActive sensor that gets closer to your skin for more accurate readings. It tracks heart rate, SpO2, BIA sensor (reads your body fat, skeletal muscle, body water, basal metabolic rate, and more), ECG, advanced sleep tracking (deep, light, and REM), and more.
In terms of sports tracking, the GTR 3 Pro tracks over 150 sports modes, including running, swimming, and cycling. Plus, it can automatically detect up to eight modes to keep you engaged and healthy. It also tracks VO2 max, training effectiveness, and load, as well as how long your body takes to recover. Additionally, it also has a virtual pacer that allows you to virtually race against yourself by comparing your running data to your previous runs.
The Galaxy Watch 5, on the other hand, can track over 90 sports modes, including running, swimming, and cycling, and it can automatically detect these modes plus a few more for a total of 8 modes. Additionally, it also tracks VO2, which can help you get a glimpse into your aerobic capacity.
Overall, both devices showed awesome health and fitness tracking capabilities by tracking all the important metrics, including heart rate, SpO2, and ECG. Plus, they can also track multiple sports modes to help you stay fit and healthy and become a better version of yourself.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Galaxy Watch 5: Battery Life
In terms of battery life, the Amazfit offers an excellent battery life, but unfortunately, I can’t say that for the Galaxy Watch, which you will get in a few minutes.
The GTR 3 Pro claims the battery life can go for about 12 days under typical usage and 6 days under heavy usage. I guess this is true; the battery did last for around one week when heart rate, SpO2 monitoring, an always-on display, and sleep tracking were heavily used. It comes with a proprietary magnetic adapter that can charge the device to over 90% in an hour or so. Plus, it also has a battery saver mode that can extend the battery life from 12 days to 30 days if your battery is running low and the charger is nowhere nearby.
The Galaxy Watch 5, on the other hand, can last for around 24 hours on a single charger, even with the always-on display enabled, which is nowhere close to the GTR 3 Pro. If you want to use the Always-On display, the watch can only last for about 21 hours, meaning you will definitely need a charger to charge it every day. One cool thing about this watch is that you can plug in the charger for around 8 minutes, which gives the watch enough juice to track heart rate, blood oxygen, snoring, and sleep through the night. It will take around 1.5 hours to fully charge the device to 100%, which is not bad at all.
Overall, the battery life is excellent on the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro, and it can last for about a week under heavy usage, which is a good thing to have. With the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, you don’t get a good battery, but it does offer excellent charging speed, so it can give some hope.
Amazfit GTR 3 Pro vs Galaxy Watch 5: Verdict
Both smartwatches offer budget pricing, and on top of that, they showed awesome strength with an amazing AMOLED display, excellent health tracking, a premium look, a metal build, multiple sports modes, and good battery life (only the GTR 3 Pro).
It’s up to you to decide what features you want. There’s not much of a comparison between these two watches, but the Amazfit GTR 3 Pro wins in every scenario, whether it’s pricing, display, health and fitness tracking, battery life, or design. It has everything a budget smartwatch should have, plus many advanced features too, so there’s no point in going with the Galaxy Watch 5, but if you still want to go for this one, then you can, and ultimately you have to wear it.
